Easton Republican Public Officials

Easton residents expect and deserve results from their elected officials -
not just idle, unfulfilled campaign promises.

Republican town officials, under the proven leadership of First Selectman Tom Herrmann and Selectman Scott Centrella, have fulfilled their promises and delivered for Easton in a non-partisan fashion, by putting what's best for the town above all other considerations.

During these challenging economic times, it is a formidable task to meet the diverse needs of the entire community.

Nonetheless, during their first term, Tom and Scott, with the help of many dedicated volunteers of all political stripes, successfully:

Rallied the town to support a creative resolution to the long-standing high density housing crisis on
South Park Avenue, thereby safe-guarding both our protective zoning regulations and the fragile Mill River.

Actively participated in the development of the town budgets that resulted in the lowest two-year
tax increase in 15 years - an average yearly tax increase of 1.65% - by developing tight, taxpayer-sensitive budgets that included a 9% reduction in departmental operating expenses and wage & salary freezes.

Responded sympathetically, yet decisively, to resolve individual homeowner concerns, including
the sensitive Kronovitter housing matter, effectively negotiating a resolution to the contentious Monroe border dispute in favor of Easton residents, and championing the completion of the Wells Hill Bridge.

Supported our widely acclaimed educational system by effectively representing parent interests and
aggressively lobbying with Board of Finance members for the increase in educational funding needed to pass a town budget.

Negotiated Easton's first "AAA Credit Rating" with Standard & Poor's, resulting in an $187,000 annual
  savings in interest expense.

Renegotiated the Easton Country Day School lease at old Samuel Staples School, resulting in a
$150,000 annual benefit to the Town - over $1 million during the term of the lease.

Advanced, advised and supported with the Senior Tax Relief Committee a new tax relief ordinance that
offers more flexible options (abatement, deferral and caps) than any other program in the state.

Oversaw the most extensive technology upgrade in Town Hall's history, all designed to provide better
service to the community. The upgrades included: new workstations, servers, a telecommunications system, VOIP telephone service and televised meeting capabilities, despite reductions in departmental budgets.

Easton needs Tom and Scott in office to face the challenges which still lie ahead.

The Republican team will:

Vigorously defend Easton's zoning regulations on the proposed Saddle Ridge high density development
project, drawing on expertise gained in the successful South Park negotiations.

Continue to improve departmental operational efficiencies and ensure that your tax dollars are spent
wisely on the needs and priorities of the community first, while striving for minimal tax increases.

Focus on excellence in education as one of Easton's key strengths, and advocate for responsible
funding that will support the highest standards of academic performance education for our students.

Protect Easton's farmland and promote programs and activities that highlight the benefits of our rural
origins to the community and region.

Deepen our sense of community through enhanced recreational opportunities and social activities
coordinated by the Parks and Recreation department, the Easton Public Library, the Easton Senior Center, and the Easton Community Center.

Provide strong, yet supportive leadership, to further enhance the morale and motivation of town
employees, while improving productivity and cooperation among departments.

Identify potential tenants and increase occupancy in the old Samuel Staples School, under negotiated
lease terms that will maximize revenue for the Town.
