Dear Fellow Republican:
The Summer of 2011 is coming to a close but the Fall
2011 campaign for the Easton Municipal Election on November
8th is just beginning. First Selectman Tom Herrmann,
Selectman Scott Centrella and our entire slate of candidates,
proposed by your town committee at Caucus on July 26th
were overwhelmingly endorsed. Tom will be running for
his third two-year term and Scott for his fourth two-year
term as a member of the Board of Selectmen.
Although the Easton Democratic Town Committee is not
running a candidate for First Selectman, they will be
aggressively focusing their energy on gaining seats
on our Board of Finance, Region 9 Board of Education
(Joel Barlow High) as well as for Tax Collector and
Town Clerk - all important elected offices long-held
by Republicans which we need to defend vigorously. (A
full color brochure will be sent shortly showing the
impressive biographical and professional credentials
of all our Republican candidates along with recent photographs).
Frankly, my biggest concern is that without a contest
for First Selectman there could be low Republican voter
turnout which would only benefit the opposition. We
must not be complacent - remember in 2003 we lost several
key seats as well as control of the Board of Selectmen
for two years. To prevent that we need you to:
1. Vote on Tuesday, November 8th for our slate of
candidates led by Tom and Scott who have delivered
consistently in a non-partisan fashion over the last
four years.
2. Attend our Annual Dinner & Auction on Friday,
September 30th at Roberto's in Monroe at which time
we will recognize our former State Representative The
Honorable John E. Stripp for his dedicated service to
Easton, Weston and Redding. State Senator and Minority
Leader John McKinney and our new State Representative
John Shaban will be co-auctioneers. Other prominent
Republican elected officials who worked closely with
John during his 18 years in Hartford will join us.
3. Send a donation payable to the Easton Republican
Town Committee today so that we can underwrite the
rising costs of mounting an effective, aggressive and
positive campaign to get our message across to all the
voters.
Additionally, please donate an item for our auction
and/or place an ad ($100) in our commemorative Dinner
Ad Book. Contact Cecelia Campbell, Chair of the Dinner,
at 254-3497, to make a reservation, donate an auction
item or place an ad.
4. Join us for our Cocktail Party on Sunday, October
30th at the home of Cathy and Adam Dunsby on Redding
Road to help rally the party and encourage Tom, Scott
and the entire team onto a resounding victory 9 days
later.
With the greatest pride and confidence in our party,
I remain, Yours truly,
Hugh J. Barry,
Chairman
