John Campbell to be Easton Republicans'
Nominee for Treasurer
Suzanne McCauley Not Seeking
Re-Election
Easton, Conn., (Oct. 15, 2007) - Easton Republican
Town Committee Chairman, Hugh J. Barry, today announced that
the Republican Party's Vacancy Committee has endorsed John
F. Campbell to fill the Treasurer's position on the November
6 ballot.
Suzanne Ryan McCauley has decided not to seek
re-election as Town Treasurer in the upcoming municipal election
in order to accept a senior position in the Town of Stratford.
The Stratford town charter prohibited her from holding both
positions.
An Easton resident for over 12 years, Campbell
is currently a member of the Easton Pension and Benefits Commission.
He graduated from The University of Virginia with a bachelor's
degree in Sociology and attended The Graduate School of Business
at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Until his
recent retirement, he worked in various financial management
positions over 17 years at The McGraw-Hill Companies in their
Benefit Plans Financing Group. Previously, Campbell spent
18 years with The Chase Manhattan Bank's Pension, Trust and
Securities Services Group in New York City.
He and his wife, Cecelia, have two children,
Charlotte and Duncan, who attend Joel Barlow High School and
Helen Keller Middle School, respectively. John is also a former
past president of The Easton Lions Club. He served as a Battalion
Liaison Officer and as a Rifle Platoon Leader in the US Army.
In her vacancy letter dated October, 12, 2007
to Easton Town Clerk, W. Derek Buckley, Mrs. McCauley wrote:
"It has been with great pride that I have served
the Town of Easton for the last four years and working here
has been a wonderful experience. I will always treasure the
opportunities provided for me by the electorate of the Town
of Easton".
As the Town Treasurer since November 2003, Ms.
McCauley contributed to the management of a $37 million dollar
budget, in addition to overseeing the disbursements and bonding
for the new elementary school project. She also arranged for
the permanent financing of 85 % of the debt for the new school
project and saved the Town approximately $1.5 million in interest
payments over the 20 year life of the Town bonds by capitalizing
on historically low interest rates.
"John Campbell is a very capable and knowledgeable
financial executive whose skills and experience from a long
and successful career in the private sector will be invaluable
to Easton's financial operations. He, along with his wife,
Cecelia, has been actively involved in town and civic organizations,
and are very well known in the community", as stated by Mr.
Barry.
According to Suzanne, "I am disappointed that
I will not have the opportunity to serve with Tom Herrmann
if he is elected First Selectman as he is someone who can
energize the citizens of Easton through inclusiveness and
the ability to make a connection with people - someone who
can build loyalty and trust. I am confident that under Tom's
leadership and vision, the Republican ideas, values and philosophies
that have been overwhelmingly supported by the people of Easton
will continue".
