Friday April 4, 2008
Dear
Fellow Republican:
On Tuesday, November
4, 2008, Easton Republicans will elect the next President
of the United States as well as their US Congressman, State
Senator, and State Representative in Hartford. You will be
hearing much more from me on this historic election, but for
now, let me touch on topics here at home.
At our party caucus
in January, thirty-eight people (five new members) were elected
to serve a two-year term, effective March 27, 2008, as your
party representatives on The Easton Republican Town Committee.
The following officers were re-elected that night - Lisa Tasi,
Secretary; Kohlman Johnson, Treasurer; James Riling, Vice
Chairman; and me, as your Chairman. Your Town Committee is
very diverse, representing many constituencies in Easton.
In fact, forty-three percent are women, which compares favorably
with town committee representation in both Redding and Weston.
Our First Selectman,
Tom Herrmann, has been hard at work in his new role. He is
quickly mastering the details of the many challenging issues
confronting our town, such as proposed development/litigation
on South Park Avenue and construction of the Wells Hills Bridge.
To no one's surprise, Tom has been very proactive in meeting
all Town Hall employees and understanding their diverse duties.
He has been evaluating carefully all departmental budgets
for fiscal 2008/2009 to ensure that expenditures are as cost-efficient
as possible while advocating increased financial assistance
for our senior citizens. Additionally, Tom is working closely
with our newly reconstituted Technology Committee to effect
meaningful and cost-effective upgrades to hardware and software
in Town Hall; for example, public meetings in Town Hall can
now be shown "real time" on Cable Channel 76 for your convenience.
Thirty-four appointments have been made to town boards and
commissions since November by The Board of Selectmen, ever
mindful of competency in their selection process.
Electing Tom, Scott
Centrella and all 14 other Republican candidates on the slate
in a resounding "clean sweep" last November was an expensive
undertaking for your town committee. Consequently, we need
to replenish our treasury to fund important investments during
the next two years. I am appealing to you to make a generous
donation to the "Easton Republican Town Committee". Contributions
to town committees cannot exceed $1,000 per person, per year.
Please put these important
dates on your calendars: Saturday, June 21, for our annual
"Lobster Bake and Steak Dinner", and Saturday, September 27,
for our "Annual Dinner and Auction". More info will follow,
but we need your support of these social and fund- raising
events, especially in this election year. I encourage you
to visit frequently our ever-changing and robust website -
www.eastonrepublicans.org - for timely and important information
on our party and our town. I also urge you to attend the town
committee meetings on the fourth Thursday of each month in
the Library. Additionally, through the site, please forward
us your current e-mail address so that you will receive timely
communications as do hundreds of other Easton Republicans
on our growing e-directory.
Thank you for your past
support of our cause. We look forward to hearing from you
on any topic of interest and hope to see you at our upcoming
events, especially our Annual Town Meeting on Monday, April
28.
Yours truly,
Hugh J. Barry
Chairman
